Naturulz Friday Newsletter – 5/02/25

Hello! Merrilyn, owner of Naturulz here.
I hope everyone has had a fantastic week!

I’m sure you all know the saying “April showers bring May flowers.”
Well, here in Oregon, that is definitely true!

A New Flower Discovery in Texas

Texas is also known for its flowers. Check out this article on a brand-new flower just discovered there:

Tuesday Group Lunch Featured Recipe:

Dandelion Salad

Dandelion Salad

I know it’s tempting to get out and mow your yard this time of year, but wait!
If you can put it off, there are many wildflowers that will remain long enough to be food for many creatures—including us!

Yep, a lot of what some consider “weeds” are actually edible and healthy.

Check out this dandelion salad we had at Tuesday’s lunch, with flowers I plucked from my own yard.
(At least the ones I could get before my chickens got to them.)

Local Plants = Easy to Grow

The great thing about your local plants and wildflowers is the fact that they are already acclimated to your area’s soil and weather—making them really easy to grow in your yard or garden.

You can also look into foraging for edible plants in your area. This is my favorite book for our region:

Tulips

Did you know that in 17th century Holland, tulips were more valuable than gold?
During this era of “Tulip Mania,” a single tulip bulb cost the equivalent of $2,000!

Ingredients of the Week

So many flowering plants have health benefits and are the reason we can make our awesome products!

Check out some of our favorites:

Lavender

Lavender

I grow a few types of lavender in my yard and use it for cooking, bug repellent, and dried around the house for a natural scent.
You’ll find lavender in our Ugli Butter Night and Ugli Tea Night Cap.

Red Clover

Red Clover

Red Clover grows wild all over Oregon, but it’s more rare than its pink cousin.
I get excited when I spot it!

It’s in our Ugli Butter Pulse and Ugli Tea Mood.

Chamomile

Chamomile

Chamomile is great for beginners—it needs very little care and bees love it!

We use it in Total Foot Repair and Ugli Tea Night Cap.

Arnica

Arnica

Arnica is an easy-to-grow flower that bees love.
It’s long been used to soothe muscle aches, heal wounds and bruises, and reduce inflammation.

Find it in Ugli Butter Day and Ultimate Healing Cream.

Roses

Roses

Roses are one of the most popular flowers in the world and are in the same family as raspberries, cherries, and almonds! You’ll enjoy rose hips in our Ugli Tea Calm mint.
